Installation (Steps 1-28)

All vehicles

CAUTION: If the fuel rail is used as a leverage device, damage can occur to the fuel rail. Care must be taken when working around the fuel rail.

1. Install the engine, remove the floor crane and the Spreader Bar.
2. Remove the Engine Lifting Brackets.





3. Install the LH engine insulator nuts.
^ Tighten to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).





4. Install the RH engine insulator nuts.
^ Tighten to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).





5. NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.

Install the 8 transmission-to-engine bolts.
^ Tighten to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).





6. If equipped with A/C, position the A/C tube bracket and install the nut.
^ Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
7. Route the transmission/transfer case portion of the wiring harness down to the transmission.
8. Attach the transmission/transfer case portion of the wiring harness to any routing clips or pin-type retainers.





9. Connect the wiring harness electrical connector located on the frame.





10. Position the Y-pipe and install the gasket, the bolts and the nuts.
^ Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).





11. Install the nuts.
^ Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).





12. Install the nuts.
^ Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).





13. Connect the LH heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.





14. Connect the RH HO2S electrical connector.





15. Connect the RH HO2S electrical connector.
16. Install a new engine oil filter.

Vehicles equipped with a manual transmission





17. Connect these:
1. Connect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.
2. Attach the HO2S electrical connector to the bracket.





18. Connect the reversing lamp switch electrical connector.

Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission





19. Install the 4 torque converter nuts.
^ Tighten to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).





20. Position the transmission cooling tube bracket and install the bolt.
^ Tighten to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).





21. Connect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor and digital transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connectors.





22. Connect the transmission control and input shaft electrical connectors. Install the wiring harness pin-type retainer.





23. Position the transmission level indicator tube and install the nut.
^ Tighten to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).

All vehicles
24. Install the starter. For additional information, refer to Starting System.





25. Connect the heater hose.





26. Connect the heater hose.





27. Install the crankcase breather hose and connect the 2 vacuum hoses (1 shown).





28. Connect the vapor hose to the purge valve.
