Normal Operation
The fuel sender is hardwired to the instrument cluster through circuit 29 (YE/WH) and to ground through circuit 570 (BK/WH). As the fuel level changes, a float actuates a potentiometer, changing the voltage sent to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster interprets this signal and commands the fuel gauge to sweep to the correct reading.
Possible Causes
- circuit 29 (YE/WH) open or short to ground
- circuit 570 (BK/WH) open
- fuel tank
- fuel level sensor and pump assembly
- instrument cluster
- powertrain control module (PCM)
