HEAD RESTS RISE WHILE DRIVING
FORD:
2005-2007 Focus
ISSUE
Some 2005-2007 Focus vehicles may experience the front seat head rests not staying in their set position and rising while driving.
ACTION
To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure listed below.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove head rest by depressing the locking guide and lifting the head rest out.
2. Remove locking side head rest clip by carefully sliding clip out of guide. (Figure 1)
3. Check locking head rest clip for damage (Figure 2). If damage is noted, replace locking head rest guide (610A16) and reinstall head rest. If clip is NOT damaged, proceed to Step 4.
4. Adjust the splay on the head rest guide rods (Figure 3) to approximately 3/16" (5 mm).
NOTE
NOTE: CHECKING SPLAY ADJUSTMENT CAN BE DONE BY PLACING THE LOCKING SIDE POST JUST INTO THE GUIDE OPENING AND PLACING THE NON-LOCKING POST ON TOP OF THE OTHER GUIDE BODY AS INDICATED IN FIGURE 3.
NOTE
NOTE: ADJUSTMENT OF SPLAY WILL INCREASE EFFORTS REQUIRED TO RAISE/LOWER HEAD REST, BUT SHOULD ELIMINATE THE HEAD REST FROM RISING WHILE DRIVING.
5. Reinstall head rest assembly onto seat.
