2ND ROW SEATS FOLDING / UNFOLDING / RECLINER FUNCTION CONCERNS

2005-2007 Freestyle
This article supersedes TSB 06-6-4 to update the vehicle model years and Service Procedure.
ISSUE
Some 2005-2007 Freestyle vehicles may exhibit difficulties with the folding, unfolding and recliner function of the 2nd row seat backs.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Attempt to verify the concern and perform actions below based on symptom and type of seat vehicle is equipped with.
60% Seat Back Will Not Open / Unfold
NOTE
AS DESIGNED, THE SEAT BACK WILL NOT OPEN TO ALLOW AN OCCUPANT WITHOUT THE SEAT LATCHED TO THE VEHICLE FLOOR STRIKERS.
1. Is the seat belt retractor mini web stop button present at the seat back top retractor close out plastic cover?
a. No - install new mini web stop button following instruction sheet that comes with kit.
b. Yes - go to Step 2.
2. Will the seat back open to approximately 45 degrees, but not full upright?
a. Yes - for vehicles built prior to 4/15/2005, replace the 60% Seat Inboard Recliner.
b. No - go to Step 3.
3. Is the seat back capable of opening only if the recliner handle is held in the full up position?
a. Yes - for vehicles built before 6/15/2005, replace 60% Seat Outboard Recliner.
b. No - go to Step 4.
4. Is the recliner handle "pointing down" and not toward the front seat as it is on the 40% seat?
a. Yes - for vehicles built before 6/15/2005, replace 60% Seat Outboard Recliner.
b. No - proceed with normal diagnosis
60% Seat back Will Not Close / Fold Down / Stuck In Upright Position
1. Are cables and mechanisms behind the outboard recliner handle / side shield are present and free of damage?
a. No - return to correct position or replace damaged parts as necessary.
b. Yes - go to Step 2.
2. Does the seat fold intermittently, or with high recliner handle effort?
a. Yes - replace the 60% Seat Inboard recliner mechanism.
b. No - proceed with normal diagnosis.
NOTE
PART INCLUDES A NEW CABLE, DO NOT REUSE OLD CABLE.
40% (RH or LH) Seat back Will Not Open / Unfold / Will Not Fold
NOTE
AS DESIGNED, THE SEAT BACK WILL NOT OPEN TO ALLOW AN OCCUPANT WITHOUT THE SEAT LATCHED TO THE VEHICLE FLOOR STRIKERS.
1. Are cables and mechanisms behind the outboard recliner handle / side shield are present and free of damage?
a. No - return to correct position or replace damaged parts as necessary.
b. Yes - go to Step 2.
2. Is the seat back capable of opening only if the recliner handle is held in the full up position?
a. Yes - for vehicles built before 6/15/2005, replace RH or LH 40% Seat Recliner.
b. No-go to Step 3
3. Is the recliner handle "pointing down" and not toward the front seat as it is on the other 2nd row seat?
a. Yes - for vehicles built before 6/15/2005, replace RH or LH 40% Seat Recliner.
b. No - proceed with normal diagnosis.
