Heater Hose: Service and Repair

Removal and Installation

All vehicles
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.
2. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
3. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.
4. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve heater hose from the degas bottle.
5. Disconnect the heater hose from the tube portion of the EGR valve heater hose.
6. Remove the EGR valve heater hose bracket nut.
^ To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs).
7. Disconnect the EGR valve heater hose from the thermostat housing.

Vehicles equipped with a manual transmission
8. Remove the shifter.

All vehicles
9. Remove the rear driveshaft.
10. Remove the catalytic converter-to-muffler bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs).





11. Remove the exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter bolts and the catalytic converter.
^ To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs).





12. NOTE: Manual transmission shown, automatic transmission similar.

Support transmission with an appropriate transmission jack.





13. Remove the 6 bolts (3 on each side) retaining the crossmember to the frame.
^ To install, tighten to 101 Nm (74 ft. lbs).





14. Detach the transmission electrical connector from the crossmember. Remove the transmission mount nuts and crossmember.
^ To install, tighten to 99 Nm (73 ft. lbs).





15. Lower the transmission to access EGR coolant hose.
16. Disconnect the hose from the intake manifold heated positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) fitting and remove the hose from the vehicle.
17. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
