Removal and Installation

WARNING: When repairing the starter motor or performing any maintenance in the area of the starter motor, note the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Make sure the protective cap is installed over the terminal after the repair.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.







3. Remove the left front inner fender splash shield.
4. Remove the solenoid terminal cover from the terminals.
5. Remove the solenoid terminal nuts and disconnect the solenoid electrical connections.
- To install, tighten the solenoid battery cable nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
- To install, tighten the solenoid wire nut to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

6. Remove the ground cable retaining nut. Position the ground cable aside.
- To install, tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).

7. Remove the 2 starter motor stud bolts, the bolt and the starter motor.
- To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).

8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
