Removal
CAUTION: Do not use oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators. These lubricants may cause deterioration of the rubber. This can lead to separation of the isolator from the exhaust hanger bracket during vehicle operation.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
2. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) and catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
3. Remove the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe assembly-to-muffler and tailpipe assembly bolts, flag nuts and gasket.
4. Remove the transmission mount and isolator-to-transmission bolt.
5. Remove the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe nuts.
6. Using a suitable jack, support the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe.
7. NOTE: 3.0L shown, 4.0L similar.
NOTE: Do not remove the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
Loosen the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
8. Using a suitable jack, support the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe.
9. NOTE: 3.0L shown, 4.0L similar.
Remove the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
10. Remove the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe.
11. Remove the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe gasket.
12. NOTE: 3.0L shown, 4.0L similar.
Remove the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust Y-pipe nuts and remove the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe.
Installation
CAUTION: Do not tighten the exhaust system fasteners until all components are assembled and aligned, making sure to tighten all fasteners beginning at the front of the vehicle.
NOTE: Clean the mating surface of the exhaust manifold outlet flares and the exhaust Y-pipe inlet flares. Make sure not to damage the exhaust manifold outlet flares or the studs.
NOTE: Clean the mating surface of the exhaust Y-pipe and the catalytic converter. Make sure not to damage the exhaust Y-pipe and catalytic converter mating surfaces or studs.
1. NOTE: Make sure to apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the sensors before installation.
If removed, install the catalyst monitor sensors and the RH HO2S and catalyst monitor sensor.
^ Tighten to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs).
2. NOTE: 3.0L shown, 4.0L similar.
Position the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe into the vehicle and loosely install the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
3. Install the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe gasket.
4. NOTE: 3.0L shown, 4.0L similar.
Position the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe into the vehicle and loosely install the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
5. Loosely install the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe nuts.
6. Install the transmission mount and isolator-to-transmission bolt.
^ Tighten to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs).
7. Loosely install the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-muffler and tailpipe assembly gasket, bolts and flag nuts.
8. Align the exhaust system.
9. Connect the HO2S and catalyst monitor sensors electrical connectors.
