FORD:
2007 Ranger

ISSUE
Some 2007 Ranger vehicles equipped with 3.0L engine may exhibit a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0401. This may be caused by a misrouted vacuum harness that could cause damage to the EGR vacuum harness.

ACTION
Refer to the following Service Procedure to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE
DO NOT CHANGE DELTA PFE BEFORE THE EGR VACUUM HARNESS IS INSPECTED AND PROCEDURE HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

1. Retrieve DTC and if code P0401 is the only code present, continue on to Step 2. If P0401 is not present do not continue with this TSB or if other codes are present resolve those DTCs before continuing on with this TSB.

2. Inspect EGR vacuum harness as required to ensure proper vacuum harness routing. Harness should run above the installed EGR valve. (Figure 1)

3. If vacuum harness is routed properly, perform normal diagnostics per the Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual and skip to Step 4.

4. If vacuum harness is incorrectly routed, disconnect at the manifold, inspect for damage.

5. Reroute and/or replace vacuum harness above the installed EGR valve. (Figure 1)

6. Clear DTC.

7. Verify concern is fixed by performing self test KOEO/KOER.
