Driveshaft Indexing
Driveshaft IndexingNOTE: If indexing the driveshaft does not eliminate the vibration, balance the driveshaft.
1. WARNING: Shut off the electrical power to the air suspension system prior to hoisting or jacking an air suspension equipped vehicle. Failure to do so may result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which may result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
If equipped, turn the air suspension service switch to the OFF position.
2. WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, refer to Fire Suppression System for Important Safety Warnings. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
3. CAUTION: Do not reuse the bolts for the pinion flange. Install new bolts or damage to the vehicle may occur.
NOTE: Index-mark the pinion flange and driveshaft flange.
Disconnect the rear driveshaft universal joint flange.
^ Discard the 4 bolts.
4. Rotate the rear pinion flange 90 degrees clockwise.
5. NOTE: The index mark on the flanges will not align.
Connect the rear driveshaft and install 4 new bolts.
^ Tighten to 112 Nm (83 lb-ft).
6. WARNING: If the vehicle is equipped with a fire suppression system, repower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to Fire Suppression System. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
If equipped with fire suppression system, repower the system.
7. Test drive the vehicle.
8. Repeat the procedure if necessary.
