Test D: The Chime Sounds When The Driver Door Is Ajar (No Key In Ignition And Headlamps Off)
PINPOINT TEST D: THE CHIME SOUNDS WHEN THE DRIVER DOOR IS AJAR (NO KEY IN IGNITION AND HEADLAMPS OFF)Normal Operation
When the key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder, the key-in-ignition warning switch (part of the ignition lock cylinder) grounds circuit 158 (BK/PK). The ground input signals the instrument cluster (IC) the key is inserted. If the instrument cluster (IC) detects that the ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position with the key inserted in the ignition lock cylinder and the driver door is ajar, the key-in-ignition warning chime sounds.
The headlamp switch provides a voltage signal to the instrument cluster (IC) through circuit 14 (BN) when the headlamp switch is in the PARKING LAMPS or HEADLAMPS ON position. If the instrument cluster (IC) detects that the ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position, the driver door is ajar, and receives the headlamp switch signal, the headlamp on warning chime sounds.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Exterior lighting concern
- Key-in-ignition warning switch (part of the ignition lock cylinder)
- Clockspring
- Instrument cluster (IC)
