Inspection and Verification

INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION

NOTE: This provides mechanical diagnosis of the turbocharger assembly. If there is a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated, or DTCs are present, these should be diagnosed prior to performing turbocharger mechanical diagnosis. Refer to Computers and Control Systems.

1. Verify the customer concern.
2. Inspect the entire turbocharger system for obvious signs of damage, using the following chart.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
- Damaged intake hoses
- Loose hose clamps
- Loose exhaust clamps
- Damaged turbocharger
- Restricted intake or exhaust
- Damaged charge air cooler (CAC)
- Damaged/kinked or disconnected manifold absolute pressure (MAP) hose
- Exhaust leaks
- Air leaks
- Oil seal leaks
- Inspect oil (dirty, incorrect level or diluted)

3. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, GO to Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
