Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION

The stoplamp switch is normally open. When the brake pedal is applied with the speed control system engaged, the stoplamp switch closes (to battery voltage), putting the speed control in the stand-by mode.

The clockspring provides the electrical interface between the steering column wiring and the speed control switches in the steering wheel.

The inputs to the speed control actuator required to operate the speed control system are the:
- Speed control switches
- Digital transmission range (TR) sensor (automatic transaxle)
- Clutch pedal position (CPP) switch (manual transaxle)
- Stoplamp switch
- Speed control deactivator switch
- Speed signal from the PCM
