Inspection and Verification
INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION1. Verify the customer concern.
2. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of electrical damage.

- 7 (40A) (no communication with power running board [PRB] module)
- 8 (40A) (no communication with dual climate control seat module [DCSM])
- 35 (20A) (no communication with 4X4 control module)
- 36 (10A) (no communication with PCM)
- 37 (15A) (no communication with TCM)
- 43 (20A) (no communication with 4X4 control module)
- 45 (30A) (no communication with DSM)
- 47 (30A) (no communication with air suspension module)
- 65 (10A) (no communication with air suspension module)
- 73 (5A) (no communication with TCM)
- 76 (20A) (no communication with PCM)
- 77 (10A) (no communication with ABS module)
- Smart junction box (SJB) fuse(s):
- 2 (15A) (no communication with DSM)
- 3 (15A) (no communication with satellite digital audio receiver system (SDARS) module, audio rear control unit (RCU), rear entertainment module [RETM])
- 5 (10A) (no communication with SJB)
- 14 (10A) (no communication with liftgate/trunk module [LTM])
- 15 (10A) (no communication with heating ventilation air conditioning [HVAC] module - electronic manual temperature control [EMTC], heating ventilation air conditioning [HVAC] module - electronic automatic temperature control [EATC])
- 20 (15A) (no power to the scan tool)
- 26 (10A) (no communication with instrument cluster [IC])
- 29 (5A) (no communication with IC)
- 32 (10A) (no communication with RCM)
- 35 (10A) (no communication with parking aid module [PAM])
- 37 (10A) (no communication with HVAC module - EMTC, HVAC module - EATC)
- 38 (20A) (no communication with audio digital signal processing [DSP] module)
- 39 (20A) (no communication with audio control module [ACM])
- 40 (20A) (no communication with DSP module)
- Data link connector (DLC)
- Wiring harness
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the DLC.
NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
- Check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
- Check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
- GO to Pinpoint Test W, to diagnose no power to the scan tool. Test W: No Power To The Scan Tool
5. NOTE: During the network test, the scan tool will first attempt to communicate with the PCM, after establishing communication with the PCM, the scan tool will then attempt to communicate with all other modules on the vehicle.
Carry out the network test.
- If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs and proceed to Step 6.
- If the network test fails, GO to Symptom Chart to identify the module not communicating. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
6. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DTC Charts. For all other DTCs, refer to Body Control Systems (Multifunction Electronic Control Module). Module Communications Network
7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
