SNAPPING/POPPING NOISE - DRIVER SIDE
POWERFOLD MIRROR - BUILT FROM 5/7/2007 TO
7/16/2007

ISSUE
Some 2008 Expedition and Navigator vehicles built from 5/7/2007 to 7/16/2007 and equipped with a driver side powerfold mirror may exhibit a popping/snapping sound when folding the driver side mirror in or out and/or may not open completely.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

It may be necessary to relieve the moveable mirror bracket from catching on the stationary mirror sail, when the mirror is opening from a folded position to an unfolded position.

NOTE
THESE STEPS MUST BE PERFORMED WITH THE MIRROR ON THE VEHICLE TO ENSURE THAT THE PROPER GAP IS CREATED. BELT MOLDING AND GLASS RUN INTERACTION WILL INFLUENCE THE POSITION OF AN INSTALLED MIRROR.

1. Fold mirror outward, manually.

2. Insert a protective shroud (thin piece of cardboard or equivalent) in the horizontal cutline area to protect the bottom of the sail.





3. Using a sharp knife, shave off any sharp edges at the vertical corner of the mirror head bracket, so the area is smooth. (Figure 1)

4. Fold the mirror in and out and listen for a snapping sound.

a. If the snapping sound continues, repeat Steps 1-4.

b. If repeating Steps 1-4 does not eliminate the snapping sound, proceed to Step 5.

5. Fold mirror inward, manually.

6. Insert a protective shroud (thin piece of cardboard or equivalent) in the horizontal cutline area to protect the bottom of the sail.





7. Shave off the vertical raised lip, at the corner of the stationary sail. (Figure 2)

8. Fold mirror in and out and listen for snapping sound. If the noise is gone, return vehicle to customer.
