Test A: The Engine Does Not Crank And The Relay Does Click
PINPOINT TEST A: THE ENGINE DOES NOT CRANK AND THE RELAY DOES CLICKNormal Operation
In normal operation, constant voltage is supplied to the battery junction box (BJB) fuse 40 (30A) and to the stater relay pin 30. Voltage is supplied from the smart junction box (SJB) through circuit SBP27 (BU/RD) to the ignition switch. When the ignition switch is placed in the START position, voltage is supplied through circuit CDC35 (BU/WH) to circuit CDC38 (WH/VT) to the starter relay located in the BJB. The starter relay coil is supplied ground from the PCM through circuit CDC12 (YE).
When the starter relay is energized, voltage supplied to the relay switch from BJB fuse 40 (30A) is sent to the starter motor solenoid through circuit CDC25 (BN/GN). Battery voltage is supplied to the starter motor through circuit SDC02 (RD) at all times.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Failed BJB fuse 40 (30A)
- An open in circuit CDC25 (BN/GN), SDC04 (RD) or SDC02 (RD)
- Starter motor relay
