Removal

REMOVAL

Transmission





1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Unclip the console cover, then slide the cover and boot assembly upward.





4. Remove the gearshift lever nut.





5. Install the gearshift lever nut on the LH side of the lever, then tighten the nut to remove the eccentric stud out of the gearshift lever. Remove the upper gearshift lever.





6. Remove the 4 screws and the lower boot.
7. Remove the 4 bolts and the lower gearshift lever.
8. If transmission disassembly is required, remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
^ Reinstall the drain plug after draining all the fluid.





9. Remove the driveshaft.
10. Disconnect the starter motor ground wire, then remove the 2 starter motor bolts and the starter motor.
^ Using mechanic's wire, position the starter motor aside.





11. Disconnect the wire harness from the transmission and disconnect both of the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connectors.





12. Disconnect the reverse lamp switch electrical connector.





13. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.





14. Remove the front stabilizer bracket nuts and the brackets. Move the front stabilizer bar downward to position it out of the way.
15. Remove the 2 nuts, disconnect the fuel tubes and the wire harness from the rear of the transmission and position them aside.





16. Using the special tool, disconnect the clutch hydraulic tube.





17. Position a suitable jack under the transmission. Secure the transmission to the jack with a safety strap.





18. Remove the 2 exhaust hanger bracket bolts and remove the hanger.





19. Remove the 2 exhaust heat shield bolts.





20. Remove the 4 crossmember nuts.





21. Remove the 2 transmission mount nuts and the crossmember.





22. Remove the transmission mount from the transmission.
23. Lower the transmission enough to gain access to the upper transmission-to-engine bolts. Remove 9 transmission-to-engine bolts.
24. Pull the transmission rearward until the input shift is clear of the pressure plate, then lower the transmission from the vehicle.
