Removal and Installation

All vehicles
1. Remove the ignition coil-on-plug.

Early build vehicles

2. CAUTION:
- Do not remove the spark plugs when the engine is hot or cold soaked. Spark plug thread or cylinder head damage can occur. Make sure the engine is warm (hand touch after cooling down) prior to spark plug removal
- Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs or damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.


NOTE:
- Use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the spark plug well before removing the spark plugs.
- If an original spark plug is used, make sure it is installed in the same cylinder from which it was taken. New spark plugs can be used in any cylinder.
- Refer to the specifications for correct spark plug identification.

Remove the spark plugs.
- To install, tighten to 34 Nm (25 lb-ft).

Late build vehicles

3. CAUTION:
- Do not remove the spark plugs when the engine is hot or cold soaked. Spark plug thread or cylinder head damage can occur. Make sure the engine is warm (hand touch after cooling down) prior to spark plug removal
- Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs or damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.


NOTE:

Remove the spark plugs.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

All vehicles

4. CAUTION: The spark plug gap is NOT adjustable. Damage can occur to the ceramic if the gap is adjusted. Install a new spark plug if the gap is out of specification.

Inspect the spark plugs. Install new spark plugs as necessary.

5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
