Power Steering Pump to Steering Gear Pressure Line

Removal and Installation

CAUTION: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of foreign material or failure of the power steering components may result.

1. Using a suitable suction device, drain the power steering fluid reservoir.
2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
3. Remove the pressure line bracket/pump bolt.
^ To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
4. Disconnect the pressure line-to-pump fitting.
^ To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
5. Disconnect the steering gear shield from the line fitting and position the shield up on the lower steering column shaft.
6. Disconnect the return hose-to-steering gear fitting.
^ Discard the O-ring seal.
^ To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
7. Disconnect the pressure line-to-steering gear fitting and remove the pressure line.
^ To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Install a new O-ring seal on the return hose-to-steering gear fitting.
^ Fill the power steering system.
