Tests AG: The Low Oil Pressure Reconfigurable Telltale Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On)

PINPOINT TEST AG: THE LOW OIL PRESSURE RECONFIGURABLE TELLTALE WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

Normal Operation
The instrument cluster (IC) is hardwired to the normally open engine oil pressure switch through circuit CMC24 (GY). The instrument cluster (IC) provides a reference voltage to the engine oil pressure switch when the ignition key is in the RUN position. When there is low or no oil pressure, the engine oil pressure switch remains open. The instrument cluster (IC) detects no change in the reference voltage and commands the low oil pressure reconfigurable telltale warning indicator on. When the engine is running with sufficient oil pressure the engine oil pressure switch closes, providing a ground, which pulls the reference voltage from the instrument cluster (IC) low, the instrument cluster (IC) turns off the low oil pressure reconfigurable telltale warning indicator.

The instrument cluster (IC) also uses engine rpm to determine whether the engine is running or if the ignition key is only in the ON position. If the instrument cluster (IC) receives a valid rpm signal and the oil pressure is normal, the instrument cluster (IC) turns off the low oil pressure reconfigurable telltale warning indicator.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Engine oil pressure switch
- Base engine concern
- Instrument cluster (IC)
