Fuel System Bleeding - High Pressure

FUEL SYSTEM BLEEDING - HIGH PRESSURE

WARNING:
- Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
- Do not carry personal electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers or audio equipment of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
- When handling fuel, always observe fuel handling precautions and be prepared in the event of fuel spillage. Spilled fuel may be ignited by hot vehicle components or other ignition sources. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.


1. Bleed the low-pressure fuel system.







2. Remove the rear banjo bolt on the fuel cooler.







3. NOTE:
- Use the old banjo bolt sealing washers when installing the special tool.
- The special tool will drain fuel out of the fuel system. Install the open end of the special tool into a suitable fuel container.

Install the special tool in place of the rear banjo bolt.

4. Cycle the ignition key ON for 30 seconds without starting the engine, then cycle the key OFF for 5 seconds. Repeat this cycle 3 times or until fuel starts to flow from the special tool hose.







5. Start the engine and let it idle until a steady stream of fuel (free of air bubbles) is coming out of the special tool hose. If the engine does not start, repeat Step 4.







6. Turn the engine off and install the banjo bolt and new sealing washers.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

7. Start the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes.
