Axle Shaft Seal
Special Tools:
Removal
1. Remove the wheel bearing and wheel hub assemblies. For additional information, refer to Front Suspension and/or Steering Knuckle.
2. Using a suitable tool, drive the axle shaft main seal out of the wheel knuckle.
3. Remove the axle shaft and main seal.
4. If equipped, remove the axle shaft dust seal and nylon disc from the shaft.
- Discard the seal and disc.
5. If equipped, using a suitable tool remove the axle shaft dust seal from the axle housing.
- Discard the seal.
Installation
NOTE: The wheel knuckle is only removed for clarity.
NOTE: The slide on to the axle shaft style dust seal may not be replaced or reused.
1. Install a new axle shaft dust seal into the axle housing.
1. Using the Axle Shaft Seal Installer, Axle Shaft Seal Installer Handle and a soft-faced hammer, seat the dust seal into the axle housing.
2. Install the new main seal onto the axle shaft.
1. Position the main seal onto the axle shaft.
2. Using the Driver and Knuckle Seal Installer and a soft-faced hammer, seat the main seal onto the axle shaft.
3. Position the axle shaft into the shaft housing.
4. Using the Driver and Knuckle Seal Installer with a soft-faced hammer, install the main seal into the wheel knuckle.
5. Install the wheel bearing and hub assemblies. For additional information, refer to Front Suspension and/or Steering Knuckle.
