Radiator: Service and Repair

Radiator - 3.0L, 4.0L

Removal

All vehicles
1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Disconnect the radiator overflow hose from the radiator.
3. Remove the cooling fan shroud.
4. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator.
5. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator.

Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission

6. NOTE: To avoid disturbing the transmission oil cooler fittings, use a back-up wrench.

Disconnect the 2 transmission cooler tubes from the radiator.

All vehicles
7. Remove the 2 bolts and the radiator.

Installation

All vehicles
1. Position the radiator and install the 2 bolts.
^ Tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-inch).

Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission

2. NOTE: To avoid disturbing the transmission oil cooler fittings, use a back-up wrench.

Connect the transmission cooler tubes to the radiator.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

All vehicles
3. Connect the lower radiator hose to the radiator.
4. Connect the upper radiator hose to the radiator.
5. Install the cooling fan shroud.
6. Connect the radiator overflow hose to the radiator.
7. Fill and bleed the cooling system.

8. WARNING: Do not stand in line with or near the engine cooling fan blade when revving the engine. A damaged fan can separate during operation. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

Operate the engine for several minutes and check the hoses and connections for leaks.

Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission
9. Check the transmission fluid level. Fill as needed.
