EngineDisassembly (Steps 45-69)
45. Remove the 10 bolts and the engine front cover.
46. Remove and discard the engine front cover gasket.
47. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
Clean the sealing surfaces.
48. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
49. Remove and discard the oil filter.
50. Remove the bolts.
51. Remove the cylinder heads.
52. Remove and discard the head gaskets.
53. Remove the bolts and the hydraulic lash adjuster guide plate retainer.
54. Remove the hydraulic lash adjuster guide plates.
55. NOTE: The hydraulic lash adjusters are positional. Identify each hydraulic lash adjuster for installation in its original position.
Remove the hydraulic lash adjusters.
56. Align the timing marks.
57. Remove the bolt.
58. Remove the timing sprockets and the timing chain as an assembly.
59. Remove the camshaft retainer.
60. Remove the camshaft.
61. If required, remove the camshaft bearings.
^ Use the Camshaft Service Set.
62. Remove the oil pump.
63. NOTE: Before removing the piston and connecting rod assemblies, inspect the top of the cylinder bores. If necessary remove the cylinder ridge.
Remove the piston and connecting rod assemblies one at a time.
^ Remove the connecting rod nuts in pairs.
^ Remove the connecting rod cap.
^ Remove the piston and connecting rod assembly.
64. Remove the bolts.
65. Remove the main bearing caps.
66. Remove the lower crankshaft main bearings.
67. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal.
68. Remove the crankshaft.
69. Remove the crankshaft upper main bearings.
