Test S: The Safety Belt Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

PINPOINT TEST S: THE SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

Normal Operation
The safety belt warning indicator warns the driver that their safety belt is not fastened. The safety belt status is sent to the instrument cluster (IC) by the restraints control module (RCM) over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) communication bus. When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or START position during the first 65 seconds, the instrument cluster (IC) turns on the safety belt warning indicator. If the safety belt remains unbuckled, once the Belt-Minder(R) system is enabled, the instrument cluster (IC) flashes the indicator and turns on the Belt-Minder(R) warning chime as a secondary alert to the driver.

- DTC U0151 (Lost Communication With The Restraints Control Module [RCM]) - is a continuous DTC that sets in the instrument cluster (IC) if the instrument cluster (IC) does not receive the safety belt status, or looses communication with the RCM for more than 5 seconds and the instrument cluster (IC) turns the safety belt warning indicator off.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- RCM
- Instrument cluster (IC)
