Test D: The Chime Sounds When The Driver Door Is Ajar (No Key In Ignition and Headlamps Off)
PINPOINT TEST D: THE CHIME SOUNDS WHEN THE DRIVER DOOR IS AJAR (NO KEY IN IGNITION AND HEADLAMPS OFF)Normal Operation
The key-in-ignition warning chime sounds when the driver door is opened with the key in the ignition lock cylinder, and the ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position. The instrument cluster (IC) uses the driver door ajar status, ignition run/start position status, or operational mode of the cluster, and the key-in-ignition status to determine when to sound the chime. When the ignition key is inserted in the ignition lock cylinder, a ground signal is sent to the instrument cluster (IC) through the clockspring and the key-in-ignition switch. The instrument cluster (IC) then looks at the ignition switch position by monitoring for a voltage applied to the run/start input circuit. If the cluster does not see a voltage on the run/start circuit and the key-in-ignition is grounded, it looks to see if the driver door ajar input is grounded through the door ajar switch. If all 3 of these conditions exist, the instrument cluster (IC) sounds the key-in-ignition warning chime.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Key-in-ignition warning switch
- Instrument cluster (IC)
