ISSUE
Some 2004-2009 Ranger vehicles equipped with a manual transmission may exhibit a squeaking noise when engaging or disengaging the clutch. This may be due to the inter[ace between the clutch slave cylinder and clutch fingers. The noise may be duplicated by cycling the clutch with the vehicle standing still and the engine off.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Use a stethoscope to confirm the source of the noise is coming from the clutch slave cylinder located in the transmission bell housing.
a. If the noise is from the clutch slave cylinder, obtain the Dow Corning(R) Molykote(R) G-n Metal Assembly Paste and Clutch Kit and proceed to Step 2.
b. If the noise is not from the clutch slave cylinder, do not continue with this procedure. Follow normal diagnostics per the Workshop Manual (WSM).
