Pinpoint Test AA: The Door Ajar Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the door ajar status for the LH front door, RH front door, LH rear door, RH rear door and liftgate status from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. When the IC receives a message from the SJB that one or more doors are open or ajar, the IC turns on the door ajar indicator. If the door ajar status message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IC sets DTC U0140 in continuous memory and defaults the door ajar indicator on.

NOTE: If DTC U0140 is set in the IC, other observable symptoms may also be present such as Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning indicator, backlighting and door ajar indication.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Interior lamps concern
- SJB
- IC



PINPOINT TEST AA: THE DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

AA1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE INTERIOR LAMPS


- Open and close each door and the liftgate while monitoring the interior lamps.
- Do the interior lamps operate correctly?

Yes
GO to AA2.

No
REFER to Courtesy Lamp. Courtesy Lamp

AA2 CARRY OUT THE IC WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL


- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the IC door ajar warning indicator (AJAR_LAMP) active command mode and command the door ajar warning indicator on and off. Observe the door ajar warning indicator.
- Does the door ajar warning indicator illuminate when commanded on, and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to AA3.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

AA3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded SJB DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any SJB DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Body Control Systems.

No
GO to AA4.

AA4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC U0140 recorded?

Yes
Go To Pinpoint Test AV. Pinpoint Tests AV: DTC U0121

No
INSTALL a new SJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
