Pinpoint Test A: The Courtesy Lamps Do Not Turn On With A Door Open
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 117, Remote Keyless Entry and Alarm for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
The Smart Junction Box (SJB) sends a voltage reference signal to the door ajar switches through circuits CPL26 (GN/VT) (LH front door), CPL31 (WH) (RH front door), CPL36 (GN) (LH rear door) and CPL39 (YE) (RH rear door). Ground is provided to the LH front door ajar switch through circuit GD133 (BK), the RH front door ajar switch through circuit GD140 (BK/GN), the LH rear door ajar switch through circuit GD126 (BK/WH) and the RH rear door ajar switch through circuit GD145 (BK/BU). The door ajar switch is closed with the door closed. When the door is opened, the signal to ground is interrupted, indicating an open door to the SJB.
When any door is opened, a correct unlock code from the keyless entry keypad or an unlock request from a programmed Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is detected, the SJB provides voltage to the courtesy lamps.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Door ajar switch
- SJB
PINPOINT TEST A: THE COURTESY LAMPS DO NOT TURN ON WITH A DOOR OPEN
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
-------------------------------------------------
A1 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the DOME LAMP position.
- Do the courtesy lamps illuminate?
Yes
GO to A2.
No
Go To Pinpoint Test D. Pinpoint Test D: The Interior Courtesy Lamp(s) Are Inoperative
-------------------------------------------------
A2 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR PIDs
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger.
- Check the SJB door ajar switch PIDs (D_DR_SW, P_DR_SW, LRDR_SW, and RRDR_SW) while opening and closing all the doors.
- Do all the door ajar switch PID values agree with the door positions?
Yes
GO to A5.
No
GO to A3.
-------------------------------------------------
A3 CHECK THE AJAR SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Suspect Ajar Switch .
- Do the courtesy lamps illuminate?
Yes
INSTALL a new door latch for the ajar switch in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to A4.
-------------------------------------------------
A4 CHECK THE AJAR SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: SJB C2280c.
- Measure the resistance between the suspect ajar switch, harness side and ground as follows:
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to A5.
No
REPAIR the input circuit in question for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
A5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
