Pinpoint Test Q: The Speed Control Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The speed control status information is sent to the Instrument Cluster (IC) from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). When the speed control is engaged, the PCM provides a signal to the IC to illuminate the speed control indicator.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Speed control system concern
- PCM
- IC



PINPOINT TEST Q: THE SPEED CONTROL INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

Q1 CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL OPERATION


- Verify the speed control operates correctly.
- Does the speed control operate correctly?

Yes
GO to Q2.

No
REFER to Cruise Control.

Q2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U1900, REFER to Information Bus.

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

No
GO to Q3.

Q3 CARRY OUT THE IC INDICATOR LAMP ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL


- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the IC speed control indicator (CRUISE) active command. Command the speed control indicator on and off. Observe the speed control indicator.
- Does the speed control indicator illuminate when commanded on, and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
INSTALL a new PCM. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
