Engine - Installation

Engine

1. NOTE: Clean the engine support insulator-to-frame mating surfaces of any dirt or foreign material prior to engine installation.

Using a suitable floor crane, position the engine assembly into the vehicle.

2. Apply threadlock to the bolt threads and install the LH engine support insulator bolt.
- Tighten to 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).

3. NOTE: Make sure the RH engine support insulator mating surfaces and the washer mating surface are free of foreign material and corrosion before installation. Install a new washer.

NOTE: If during nut removal the stud bolt is extracted from the engine support insulator, separate the nut from the stud bolt prior to stud bolt installation.

Apply threadlock to the bolt threads and install the RH engine support insulator washer and 2 nuts.

- Tighten to 250 Nm (184 lb-ft).

4. Install the 5 lower transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

- Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).

6. If equipped with a 4R75E automatic transmission, connect the selector lever and install the shift cable bracket and the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

7. Position the transmission cooler tube support bracket and install the nut.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

8. Install the 4 exhaust Y-pipe flange nuts (2 RH and 2 LH).
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

9. If equipped, position the transmission fluid level indicator tube and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

10. Install 4 new torque converter-to-flexplate nuts.
- Tighten to 36 Nm (27 lb-ft).

11. Install the cylinder block opening cover.

12. Position the flexplate inspection cover and install the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 34 Nm (25 lb-ft).

13. If equipped, connect the block heater electrical connector and 2 wiring harness retainers.

14. Position the A/C compressor and install the bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

15. Install the starter.

16. Remove the Engine Lifting Bracket.

17. Position the fuel and Evaporative Emission (EVAP) tube support bracket and install the 2 upper transmission-to-engine bolts finger-tight.

18. NOTE: The RH upper transmission-to-engine bolt will be tightened later.

NOTE: On Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles, it may have been necessary to reposition the transfer case vent hose.

NOTE: Requires a 13mm straight torque adapter at 90 degrees.

Tighten the LH upper transmission-to-engine bolt.
- Calculate the correct torque wrench setting for the following torque.

- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

19. Connect the transmission wiring harness retainer to the heater coolant tube bracket.

20. Position the power steering pump and reservoir assembly and install the 2 bolts and 1 stud bolt.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

21. Position the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) tube bracket and install the nut.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

22. Position the power steering hose clamp plate to the power steering gear and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).

23. Position the engine wiring harness onto the engine and connect the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor electrical connector and the 4 wiring harness retainers to the LH valve cover stud bolts.

24. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.

Connect the LH and RH radio interference capacitor electrical connector and electrical connector retainer.

25. Connect the Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) switch electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainers to the oil pan bolt, the power steering pump stud bolt and the engine block.

26. Position the crankcase ventilation tube and connect the quick connect coupling.

27. Connect the Knock Sensor (KS) sensor electrical connector.

28. Connect the heated PCV valve electrical connector and the 4 engine wiring harness retainers to the valve cover stud bolts and the engine front cover stud bolt.

29. Connect the PCM electrical connector and attach the wiring harness retainer.

30. Attach the wiring harness and electrical connector retainers and connect the electrical connector.

31. Position the ground strap and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

32. Connect the A/C compressor clutch electrical connector and attach the wiring harness retainer.

33. Connect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.

34. Connect the heater coolant hose.

35. Tighten the RH upper transmission-to-engine bolt.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

36. Position the accessory drive belt on the accessory drive pulleys.

37. Position the Power Distribution Box (PDB) and the wiring harness on the engine.

38. Install the cooling module.

39. NOTICE: If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.

Install the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Intake Manifold Removal and Replacement.
