Pinpoint Test E: The Steering Wheel Control Illumination Is Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 71, Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Smart Junction Box (SJB) sends a pulse-width modulated voltage to the steering wheel controls through circuit VLN04 (VT/GY) to Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 80 (5A). The voltage is then routed to the clockspring through circuit CBB80 (YE/GN). The voltage than passes through the clockspring to the steering wheel harness and on to the steering wheel control switch(es). Ground for the steering wheel control switch(es) is supplied to the clockspring through circuit GD133 (BK).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Steering wheel harness
- Steering control wheel switch(es)
- Clockspring
