SONY AUDIO SYSTEM - NO SOUND FROM SOME OR ALL SPEAKERS

2009 Flex

ISSUE
Some 2009 Ford Flex vehicles equipped with a Sony Audio System may experience no sound from several or all speakers. This could be an issue with the Audio Digital Processing Module (DSP/Amplifier) and not the Audio Control Module (ACM/radio) head unit. The Sony 10 Speaker Audio System can be easily identified by the speaker located in the center of the dash and will have a Sony badge on the front speaker grill.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE
IF ONLY ONE SPEAKER IS NOT OPERATING DO NOT CONTINUE WITH THIS PROCEDURE AND FOLLOW NORMAL WORKSHOP MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS.

1. Verify that there is illumination and proper button function from the ACM head unit when it is turned on.

a. If not, stop and continue with Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 415-00 diagnostics.

b. ACM has proper button function and illumination, proceed to Step 2.

2. Perform speaker walk around test by pressing buttons 3 and 6 simultaneously in AM/FM mode.

a. If there is sound from more than one speaker, this procedure does not apply and follow WSM, Section 415-00 diagnostics.

b. If there is no sound from more than one speaker, per[orm the following diagnostic.

(1) Connect IDS diagnostic tool and per[orm DSP/Amplifier Module self test. Verify DTC / Configuration. If codes are found, follow appropriate pinpoint test in the workshop manual. Otherwise continue to Step (2).

(2) If no DTCs are found, install a new DSP/Amplifier Module and verify proper operation.
