High Transmission Fluid Level

Preliminary Inspection
NOTICE: The use of any transmission fluid other than what is recommended for this transaxle will cause transaxle damage. Refer to the Material specification and/or the transmission fluid level indicator for the correct fluid. Use only clean transmission fluid designated for this transaxle and torque converter being serviced.
NOTICE: Do not mix Mercon(R) V or Mercon(R) LV transmission fluid. This may cause erratic shift feel, erratic shift timing and/or transmission failure.
NOTE: Transmission fluid application:
- Early build vehicles require MERCON(R) V
- Late build vehicles require MERCON(R) LV
The following items must be checked prior to beginning the diagnostic procedures.
Verification of Condition
This provides information which must be used in both determining the actual cause of customer concerns and carrying out the appropriate procedures.
The following procedures must be used when verifying customer concerns for the transmission.
High Transmission Fluid Level
A transmission fluid level that is too high may cause the transmission fluid to become aerated due to the churning action of the rotating internal parts. This will cause erratic control pressure, foaming, loss of transmission fluid from the vent tube and possible transaxle malfunction and/or damage. If an overfill reading is indicated, refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill Transmission Fluid Drain And Refill.
