Removal and Installation
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.
2. NOTICE: Failure to accurately follow the battery disconnect procedures described may result in vehicle or component damage.
NOTE: The preferred method of service requires the use of a floor hoist to lift the vehicle overhead, and a transmission jack to support and lower the frame-mounted battery case.
NOTE: The frame-mounted battery can be charged while the frame-mounted battery safety straps are connected to the vehicle. Follow the procedures up to and including disconnection of the frame-mounted battery cables.
Disable the vehicle electrical supply. For additional information, refer to Battery Disconnect - Dual Battery Disconnect - Dual.
3. Remove the upper RH battery tray bolt on the forward battery tray.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
4. Loosen the 3 remaining battery tray bolts.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
5. Slide the battery tray up and to the right to disengage the battery tray from the 3 battery tray bolts and lower it onto the safety straps.
6. Remove the 2 nuts and bolts and position the battery tray cover aside.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
7. Loosen the nuts and disconnect the battery terminals.
- To connect, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
8. Remove the bolt and position the battery harness-to-frame retainer aside.
- To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
9. Remove the upper RH battery tray bolt on the rearward battery tray.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
10. Loosen the 3 remaining battery tray bolts.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
11. Slide the battery tray up and to the right to disengage the battery tray from the 3 battery tray bolts and lower it onto the safety straps.
12. Remove the 2 nuts and position the battery tray cover aside.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
13. Loosen the nuts and disconnect the battery terminals.
- To connect, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
14. Remove the bolt and position the battery harness-to-frame retainer aside.
- To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
15. Remove the 8 harness locators from the frame rail.
16. Remove the starter solenoid terminal cover.
17. Remove the nut and position the starter solenoid positive cable terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
18. Remove the nut and position the starter solenoid wire terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
19. Remove the nut and position the starter cable retainer aside.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
20. Remove the harness locator from the spring tower.
21. Remove the battery cable harness locator from the engine control harness.
22. Remove the bolt and position the battery ground cable terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
23. Remove the 3 harness locators from the body.
24. Remove the nut and position the Battery Junction Box (BJB) terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
25. Remove the bolt and position the battery ground terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
26. Remove the battery cable assembly.
27. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
