Accessories and Optional Equipment: Description and Operation




Information and Entertainment System

Functional Components

The functional components of the audio system (and their locations) are as follows:

- Audio Control Module (ACM)
- Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM), located under the floor console
- Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) module (THX(R) sound), located behind the RH rear quarter panel
- Audio amplifier (Premium or THX(R)), located behind the RH rear quarter panel
- Global Positioning System Module (GPSM), located behind the instrument panel
- Speakers (see Audio Line-Up for locations)
- AM/FM antenna, located at front of roof
- Satellite radio antenna, located at the center of trunk lid spoiler
- Combination Global Positioning System (GPS)/satellite radio antenna (vehicles with navigation), located at the center of trunk lid spoiler
- AM/FM antenna cable
- Satellite radio antenna cable
- Steering wheel controls
- Universal Serial Bus (USB) port and cable (if equipped)
- Audio input jack
- Clockspring
- Auto-dimming interior mirror (contains the microphone)

Audio Line-Up

The vehicle is equipped with one of the following ACMs:

- AM/FM single CD
- Standard for SE trim

- AM/FM 6-CD changer
- Available with base, premium (Edge only), or THX(R) (MKX only) audio systems

- Navigation
- AM/FM single CD/DVD
- Built-in satellite radio receiver
- Voice-activation
- Touchscreen display

The following audio systems are available:

- Base - Edge
- AM/FM single CD or AM/FM 6-CD changer ACM
- One speaker in each door

- Premium I - Edge
- AM/FM 6-CD changer or navigation ACM
- External audio amplifier (with navigation only)
- One 2-way speaker in each door, subwoofer in the RH rear quarter

- Premium II - Edge
- AM/FM 6-CD changer or navigation ACM
- External audio amplifier (with navigation only)
- One mid-woofer in each front door, one 2-way speaker in each rear door, 2 A-pillar speakers, subwoofer in the RH rear quarter

- Premium - MKX
- AM/FM 6-CD changer or navigation ACM
- External audio amplifier (with navigation only)
- One mid-woofer and tweeter in each front door, one speaker in each rear door

- THX(R) sound
- AM/FM 6-CD changer or navigation ACM
- Audio DSP module (with built-in amplifier) located behind the subwoofer
- One mid-woofer and tweeter in each front door, one 2-way speaker in each rear door, a 3-in-1 instrument panel speaker, 2 D-pillar speakers, subwoofer in the RH rear quarter

All audio systems include the following features:

- Speed sensitive volume
- Accessory delay
- Steering wheel controls
- MP3 capability
- Satellite-ready
- Audio input jack

The following options are available:

- Satellite radio
- SYNC system
- Optional on Edge, standard on MKX

Global Positioning System (GPS) Antenna

The GPS antenna is integral to the satellite radio antenna. A splitter cable separates the GPS signal from the satellite radio signal.

Satellite Radio - Vehicles Without Navigation

The satellite audio system consists of the following:

- Satellite Digital Audio Receiver System (SDARS) module (located behind the liftgate scuff plate trim panel)
- Satellite radio antenna
- Satellite radio antenna cable

Satellite Radio - Vehicles With Navigation

The satellite audio system consists of the following:

- ACM (with built-in satellite receiver)
- Combination GPS/satellite radio antenna
- Satellite radio antenna cable

Navigation System

The navigation system consists of the following:

- Navigation ACM
- GPS antenna
- Satellite radio/GPS splitter cable
- Microphone

The ACM controls the operation of the navigation system and the audio system. The system uses a GPS antenna, a vehicle speed input, and other sensor information to accurately establish the vehicle position.

SYNC System

The SYNC system consists of the following:

- APIM
- SYNC-specific steering wheel controls
- Microphone
- USB port
- Audio input jack

The SYNC system is a hands-free communications and entertainment system that allows the following interactions:

- Send and receive phone calls via a Bluetooth-enabled phone
- Send and receive text messages via a Bluetooth-enabled phone
- Connect media devices (such as an iPod(R) or USB device) in order to play audio files
- Play media files via a Bluetooth-enabled audio device
- Producing vehicle health reports
- Initiating an emergency call (eCall) when the air bags deploy

Not all features are available with every phone.
