Pinpoint Test E: The Roof Opening Panel Does Not Open or Close - Sliding Glass Panel or Shades Inoperative
The roof opening panel motor must be initialized whenever the roof opening sliding glass panel motor has been removed from the roof opening panel system, a new roof opening sliding glass panel motor has been installed or a new roof opening panel module assembly has been installed. Refer to Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization Programming and Relearning.
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 101, Roof Opening Panel for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
The roof opening panel uses an integrated motor and module to operate the roof opening sliding glass panel and shades.
NOTE: The roof opening panel control switch operates both the power shade and the sliding glass panel. The sliding glass panel will only open after the shade panels are open. The shade panels will only close after the sliding glass panel is closed.
NOTE: Any glass opening operation will first fully open the shade panels. Before the shade panels may be closed, the glass panel must be fully closed.
The roof opening sliding glass panel motor receives voltage from the accessory delay relay through circuit CBP41 (BU) when the key is in the ACC or RUN position. The roof opening sliding glass panel motor and roof opening panel shade motor both receive voltage at all times through circuit SBB18 (YE/RD). Ground is supplied to the roof opening sliding glass panel motor, roof opening panel shade motor and roof opening panel switch through circuit GD133 (BK). When the roof opening panel control switch is pressed, the roof opening panel switch supplies a ground signal to the sliding glass panel motor through circuit CPR31 (VT/BN). The sliding glass motor will either request the shade motor to fully open the shades (if they are not already in the fully OPEN position) or the roof opening panel sliding glass will move to the OPEN position. When the roof opening panel control switch is pulled, the roof opening panel switch supplies a ground signal to the sliding glass panel motor through circuit CPR40 (YE/OG). The sliding glass motor will then close the sliding glass panel to the safety stop position (approximately 280 mm (11.023 in) from the fully CLOSED position). The roof opening panel switch must be pulled and held until the sliding glass panel has completely closed before the switch can be pulled again to close the shades. For information about the roof opening sliding glass panel and shade operation, refer to Roof Opening Panel Description and Operation. The roof opening sliding glass panel motor acts as a master controller to the shade motor. The sliding glass panel motor and shade motor communicate to each other through a dedicated circuit within the roof opening panel jumper harness. The sliding glass panel motor and shade motor do not communicate to the vehicle network.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Fuse(s)
- Accessory delay relay
- Roof opening sliding glass panel motor not initialized
- Roof opening panel shade motor not initialized
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Roof opening panel switch
- Roof opening panel shade motor
- Roof opening sliding glass panel motor
PINPOINT TEST E: THE ROOF OPENING PANEL DOES NOT OPEN OR CLOSE - SLIDING GLASS PANEL OR SHADES INOPERATIVE
NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE: Both the power sliding glass motor and the power shade motor must be the same build level. For information on the build level of the motor, refer to the removal and installation of that motor.
NOTE: The jumper wiring harness is different on the older level (black and silver) and the newer level (blue and white) motors. They are not interchangeable. Make sure to match the jumper wiring harness with the correct level of motor.
