Pinpoint Test AT: DTC B2844
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 60, Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
- DTC B2844 (Ignition Fault) - a continuous memory DTC that sets in the Instrument Cluster (IC) if the IC senses voltage on the START/RUN input circuit without an interrupt between ignition switch positions or if ignition START or RUN is sensed without a key-in-ignition message from the Smart Junction Box (SJB).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Ignition switch
- IC
PINPOINT TEST AT: DTC B2844
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
-------------------------------------------------
AT1 CHECK THE IC RUN/START VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE ACC POSITION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: IC C220.
- Ignition In ACC.
- Measure the voltage between the IC C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the ignition switch in the ACC position?
Yes
REFER to Steering Column.
No
GO to AT2.
-------------------------------------------------
AT2 CHECK THE IC RUN/START VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE RUN OR START POSITION
- Disconnect: Starter Relay.
- Place the key in the START position.
- Measure the voltage between the IC C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the voltage between the IC C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the ignition switch in the RUN and START positions, and does the voltage drop to 0 volts when the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position?
Yes
GO to AT3.
No
REFER to Steering Column.
-------------------------------------------------
AT3 CHECK FOR CORRECT IC OPERATION
- Disconnect the IC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
