Pinpoint Test X: No Auxiliary Headphone Audio - Vehicles Without A Family Entertainment System

Normal Operation

The audio Rear Control Unit (RCU) module sends audio signals to the wired headphones. In dual-play mode, the audio to the rear speakers is muted and the audio RCU module continues to control the rear audio source to the headphones.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Customer setting
- Headphones
- Audio RCU module



PINPOINT TEST X: NO AUXILIARY HEADPHONE AUDIO - VEHICLES WITHOUT A FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

X1 CHECK THE HEADPHONE AUDIO


NOTE: For additional information on operating the headphones, refer to the Owner's Literature.

- Plug the suspect headphones into the audio RCU module.
- Operate the audio system in radio tuner (AM/FM), dual-play mode.
- Adjust the volume as necessary, and observe the suspect headphone audio.
- Does the headphone audio operate correctly for both channels?

Yes
The system is OK at this time. The concern may have been caused by a customer setting. INSTRUCT the customer in the correct operation of the headphones.

No
GO to X2.

X2 ISOLATE THE HEADPHONES


- Substitute a known good set of headphones.
- Operate the audio system in radio tuner (AM/FM), dual-play mode and observe the headphone audio.
- Does the headphone audio operate correctly?

Yes
REPLACE the suspect headphones. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to X3.

X3 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO RCU MODULE OPERATION


- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the audio RCU module connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the audio RCU module connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new audio RCU module. REFER to Audio Rear Control Unit (RCU) Module Audio Rear Control Unit (RCU) Module. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
