Pinpoint Test A: Parking Aid Is Inoperative
Normal Operation
The parking aid system is disabled if any fault is detected, and the message center indicates the parking aid is disabled. The parking aid system may also be disabled when the operator selects parking aid disable through the message center. The parking aid system remains disabled until the fault is corrected, the ignition key is cycled from OFF to RUN (if previously disabled through the message center) or parking aid enable is selected through the message center. The Parking Aid Module (PAM) communicates with the scan tool, the Smart Junction Box (SJB) and the Instrument Cluster (IC) on the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PAM
PINPOINT TEST A: PARKING AID IS INOPERATIVE

A1 VERIFY THE PAM COMMUNICATES WITH THE SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
- Does the PAM communicate with the scan tool?
Yes
GO to A2.
No
REFER to Information Bus.

A2 CHECK THE DTCs FROM THE PAM ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PAM Self-Test.
- Retrieve the DTCs from the PAM on-demand self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to DTC Charts. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
No
GO to A3.

A3 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAY
- Observe the message center.
- Does the message center display PARK AID OFF?
Yes
ENABLE parking aid in the message center. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to A4.

A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION
- Disconnect the PAM connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to Parking Aid Module (PAM) - Explorer Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
