Removal and Installation

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.

2. Remove the rear halfshafts. For additional information, refer to Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints.

3. Index-mark the driveshaft flange to the pinion flange.





4. NOTE: Align the index marks when installing the driveshaft.

Remove and discard the 4 driveshaft flange bolts.

- To install, tighten to 112 Nm (83 lb-ft).





5. NOTICE: The driveshaft flange fits tightly on the pinion flange pilot. Never hammer on the driveshaft or any of its components to disconnect the driveshaft flange from the pinion flange or damage to the component may occur.

Using a suitable tool as shown, disconnect the driveshaft flange from the pinion flange, then using mechanic's wire, position aside the driveshaft.





6. Position a suitable transmission jack to the axle housing.
- Securely strap the jack to the axle.

7. Remove the 2 differential front lower insulator bolts.
- To install, tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).

8. Remove the 2 differential rear insulator bolts.
- To install, tighten to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).

9. Disconnect the axle vent hose from the axle cover vent.

10. Lower the axle assembly from the vehicle.

11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
