Information And Message Center
Information And Message Center
The message center display is a fixed format, 2-line display integrated into the center of the Instrument Cluster (IC) and is controlled by the message center switch or the SELECT/RESET button (base IC). There are 2 basic IC/message center configurations. The first is the full-function IC message center and can be identified by the 3-button message center switch located in the center instrument panel finish panel. The second is the base IC message center and can be identified by the single SELECT/RESET button located in the IC. Both IC configurations display messages based upon vehicle option content.
The base IC message center functions and menus listed below can be selected through the SELECT/RESET button by pressing and releasing the SELECT/RESET button to scroll through the menu items. The INFO items (trip A, trip B and average fuel economy) can be reset by holding the SELECT/RESET for approximately 2 seconds. The SETUP items, (language, system configurable items such as autolamps or autolock) can be reset by holding the SELECT/RESET button for approximately 2 seconds when the selected menu item is displayed. Refer to the Owner's Literature for complete operating instructions for both the full-function message center and the base IC message center.
The message center provides the following features:
- Information displays
- Setup displays
- System check messages
- System warning messages
Message Center Configuration
On configurable items such as autolock, auto-unlock or parking aid, the message center indicates the appropriate selection (ON/OFF) by bracketing the selection. For example, if the driver selects the autolock feature on, the message would display as follows: AUTOLOCK [ON] OFF. If the driver selects the autolock off, the message would display as follows: AUTOLOCK ON [OFF].
Oil Life and Oil Life Start Value
The oil life is displayed in percentages and is preset to a maximum of approximately 12,070 (7,500 miles) or 180 days. The oil life start value is used to increase or decrease the starting point of the oil life. The value can be changed back to the maximum of approximately 12,070 (7,500 miles) if the value was previously changed or to lower the value by 10% increments down to 30%. Each 10% reduction lowers the oil life in both mileage and the days.
For example, if the oil life start value is lowered to 50%, the maximum mileage is 6,035 km (3,750 miles) or 90 days. The oil life remains at the selected setting (50% in this example) until the driver changes the oil life start value. When the oil life (not oil life start value) is reset back to 100% following an oil change, the oil life resets to 6,035 (3,750 miles). For configuration of the oil life and oil life start value, refer to Message Center Configuration Reset Procedure.
Message Center Indicators
The message center displays message center indicators in the RH side of the message center display area. Message center indicators replace indicators that have typically been displayed in the IC and use the same iconic representation (for example; the low oil pressure message center warning indicator is represented by the oil can symbol that has been traditionally used as the low oil pressure warning indicator in other IC configurations). Message center indicators are generally displayed along with warning messages in the message center display area of the IC.
Information Displays
The information displays are non-timed modes. The selected mode remains on until the driver presses the select/reset button (base IC) or a message center button (full-function message center IC) to change the mode or it is overridden by another mode.
The information display modes (INFO button on message center clusters) are:
- Odometer
- Trip odometer A and B
- Distance To Empty (DTE)
- Average fuel economy
- MyKey(TM) distance
- Instantaneous fuel economy
- Trailer brake gain and output (displays only when the gain is changed)
- Drive time (elapsed travel timer) (full-function message center IC only)
- Setup menu (base IC only)
- System check (base IC only)
- Blank display
Setup Displays
The setup display modes are:
- System check (full-function IC message center only)
- Oil life
- Units (English/metric)
- Autolamp (delay in seconds)
- Autolock (on/off) (except manual transmission)
- Auto-unlock (on/off) (except manual transmission)
- Power running boards
- Create MyKey(TM)
- MyKey(TM) setup
- Clear MyKey(TM)
- Easy entry/exit
- Rear parking aid
- Trailer sway
- Language (full-function IC message center only)
System Check Displays
The system check provides a check of all the monitored systems on the vehicle. The system check scrolls through each of the monitored systems and provides a visual indication to report out the status of each system. The message center displays OK for approximately 2 seconds if the system check does not detect a fault in the system and displays a warning message for approximately 2 seconds if the system check detects a fault in the system. Press the select/reset button (base IC) or RESET button (message center IC) to scroll through the system check messages.
The system check display modes are:
- Oil life status
- Charging system status
- Door ajar status
- Brake fluid level status
- MyKey(TM) distance
- MyKey(TM) programmed
- Admin keys programmed
- Trailer Brake Control (TBC) gain no trailer
- TBC gain output
- DTE/Fuel level status
System Warning Messages
The system warning messages alert the operator to possible concerns or malfunctions in the vehicle operating systems. If multiple warnings are present the message center cycles the display to show all warnings by displaying each warning for four seconds. The message center displays the last selected feature if there are no more warning messages.
The warning messages are divided into 4 basic categories:
- Cannot be cleared until the condition is corrected.
- Reappears 10 minutes after pressing the select/reset button.
- Reappears if the condition clears then reoccurs within the same ignition ON-OFF cycle.
- Disappears after 4 seconds
The warning messages that cannot be reset are:
- DRIVER DOOR AJAR
- PASSENGER DOOR AJAR
- REAR LEFT DOOR AJAR
- REAR RIGHT DOOR AJAR
- PARK BRAKE ENGAGED
The warning messages that reoccur after 10 minutes are:
- CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM
