Variable Valve Timing Solenoid: Service and Repair




Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) Oil Control Solenoid - 4.6L (3V), 5.4L (3V), 6.2L (2V)

4.6L (3V) and 5.4L (3V) Engines









6.2L (2V) Engines









Removal

All engines

1. Remove the LH or RH valve cover.

4.6L (3V) and 5.4L (3V) engines

2. Remove the bolt and the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) oil control solenoid.

6.2L (2V) engines

3. NOTE: The bolts are part of the VCT oil control solenoid and cannot be removed.

Loosen the 2 bolts and remove the VCT oil control solenoid.

Installation

4.6L (3V) and 5.4L (3V) engines

1. Position the VCT oil control solenoid and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

6.2L (2V) engines

2. Position the VCT oil control solenoid and tighten the bolts in 2 stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 45 degrees.

All engines

3. Install the LH or RH valve cover.
