Alternator: Service and Repair




Generator - 4.6L (2V) and 5.4L (3V)









1. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to Battery.

2. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.

3. Rotate the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt tensioner clockwise and position the FEAD belt aside.

4. Release the generator harness locator from the generator bracket.

5. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.

6. Position the generator B+ protective boot aside and remove the generator B+ nut and terminal.
- To install, tighten to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).

7. Remove the 4 bolts and the generator bracket.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

8. Loosen the 2 generator bolts and remove the generator.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
