PINPOINT TEST E: OSS SENSOR
NOTE: Refer to the Transmission Vehicle Harness Connector illustration within the Transmission Connector Layouts Transmission Connector Layouts procedure.
NOTE: Refer to the Transmission Leadframe Connector illustration within the Transmission Connector Layouts Transmission Connector Layouts procedure.
NOTE: Read and record all DTCs.
-------------------------------------------------
E1 ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTICS
- Ignition OFF.
- Select PARK.
- Connect the scan tool.
- Ignition ON.
- Check to make sure the transmission vehicle harness C1616 is fully seated, terminals are engaged in connector and in good condition before proceeding.
- Access the transmission PIDs.
- Is the scan tool able to access the transmission PIDs?
Yes
GO to E2.
No
REPEAT the procedure to access the transmission PIDs. If the scan tool did not access the transmission PIDs, REFER to Computers and Control Systems.
-------------------------------------------------
E2 DRIVE CYCLE TEST
- Monitor the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor PIDs while road testing the vehicle. Drive the vehicle so the transmission upshifts and downshifts through all the gears.
- Does the OSS sensor signal increase and decrease with engine and vehicle speed?
Yes
REFER to Diagnosis By Symptom Diagnosis By Symptom for further diagnosis.
No
GO to E3.
-------------------------------------------------
E3 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION VEHICLE HARNESS FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT
- Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C1616.
- Disconnect: PCM C1381T.
- Check to make sure the transmission vehicle harness C1616 and PCM C1381T is fully seated, terminals are fully engaged in the connector and are in good condition before proceeding.
- Measure the resistance between the transmission vehicle harness C1616-15 circuit VET62 (BN/GN) and the PCM C1381T-14.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to E4.
No
REPAIR the OSS circuit for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
E4 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION VEHICLE HARNESS FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT
- Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C1616.
- Disconnect: PCM C1381T.
- Check to make sure the transmission vehicle harness C1616 and PCM C1381T is fully seated, terminals are fully engaged in the connector and are in good condition before proceeding.
- Measure the resistance between the transmission vehicle harness C1616-15 circuit VET62 (BN/GN) and the PCM C1381T-14.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to E5.
No
REPAIR the OSS circuit for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
E5 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION VEHICLE HARNESS FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Check for voltage between the transmission vehicle harness C1616-15 circuit VET62 (BN/GN) and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the OSS circuit for a short to voltage. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to E6.
-------------------------------------------------
E6 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AND GROUND AT THE OSS SENSOR CONNECTOR
- Connect: PCM C1381T.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the transmission vehicle harness C1616-15 circuit VET26 (BN/GN) and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSPECT and clean the OSS sensor on the leadframe for metallic contamination. INSTALL a new leadframe only if no debris was found. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new PCM. PROGRAM the PCM with the latest calibration. TEST the system for normal operation.
