Pinpoint Test L: The Rear Video Mirror Display Is Always On (Vehicles Without Navigation)
Normal Operation
With the ignition switch in the RUN position, the video camera receives voltage. With the gear selector in the REVERSE (R) position, a reverse voltage signal is sent to the interior rear view mirror, enabling the system. The video signal from the video camera displays an image on the left portion of the interior rear view mirror display.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Interior rear view mirror
PINPOINT TEST L: THE REAR VIDEO MIRROR DISPLAY IS ALWAYS ON (VEHICLES WITHOUT NAVIGATION)

L1 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMPS OPERATION
- Disconnect any aftermarket trailer lighting equipment
- Check the operation of the reversing lamps.
- Do the reversing lamps operate correctly?
Yes
GO to L2.
No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

L2 CHECK FOR CORRECT INTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR DISPLAY OPERATION
- Disconnect the interior rear view mirror display connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the interior rear view mirror display connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new interior rear view mirror. REFER to Mirrors. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
