Pinpoint Test A: The Roof Opening Panel Has Excessive Wind Noise
Normal Operation
During normal operation, when the roof opening panel glass is completely closed, it is flush with the roof panel and correctly sealed.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Roof opening panel glass alignment
- Roof opening panel glass seal(s)
PINPOINT TEST A: THE ROOF OPENING PANEL HAS EXCESSIVE WIND NOISE
-------------------------------------------------
A1 VERIFY EXCESSIVE ROOF OPENING PANEL NOISE
- Road test the vehicle with the roof opening panel in the CLOSED and OPEN position.
- Is the excessive wind noise present only in the OPEN position?
Yes
GO to A4.
No
GO to A2.
-------------------------------------------------
A2 CHECK ROOF OPENING PANEL ALIGNMENT
- Check the roof opening panel alignment.
- Is the alignment OK?
Yes
GO to A3.
No
ALIGN the roof opening panel. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Alignment Adjustments.
-------------------------------------------------
A3 CHECK ROOF OPENING PANEL WEATHERSTRIP
NOTE: Make sure the weatherstrip is secured to the glass, not cut, cracked, pinched, loose or obstructed in CLOSED, VENT and OPEN position.
- Check the roof opening panel weatherstrip.
- Is the roof opening panel weatherstrip OK?
Yes
REFER to Vehicle Noise, Vibration, and Harshness to diagnose other possible sources of the excessive wind noise.
No
INSTALL a new roof opening panel weatherstrip. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Weatherstrip Service and Repair.
-------------------------------------------------
A4 CHECK AIR DEFLECTOR
- Make sure the air deflector is securely attached and check for torn and unsecured tethers.
- Is the air deflector OK?
Yes
GO to A5.
No
INSTALL new air deflector assembly. REFER to Air Deflector Air Deflector.
-------------------------------------------------
A5 CHECK AIR DEFLECTOR FOR VIBRATION
- Road test the vehicle with the roof opening panel in the OPEN position and visually check for air deflector vibration.
- Did the air deflector vibrate?
Yes
CHECK the curvature of the air deflector. The top center edge of the air deflector should be approximately 6 mm (0.23 in) to 8 mm (0.31 in) above the roofline at the center of the vehicle. The curvature of the air deflector may be modified if necessary by slightly bending it upward or downward at its center. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
PARTIALLY CLOSE the roof opening panel until the noise is eliminated. If the noise is eliminated, INFORM the customer changing glass location will eliminate the wind noise. If the wind noise is not eliminated, INSTALL a new air deflector. REFER to Air Deflector Air Deflector.
