Pinpoint Test AI: The Traction Control Message Center Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the traction control data from the ABS module over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. The traction control message center indicator flashes when the vehicle traction control is in active mode or is being controlled by the ABS module. The IC monitors the traction control message and when the ABS module detects a traction control concern, the IC illuminates the traction control message center indicator. If the traction control message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the IC sets DTC U0121 and defaults the traction control message center indicator on.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Traction control concern
- ABS concern
- IC

PINPOINT TEST AI: THE TRACTION CONTROL MESSAGE CENTER INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

-------------------------------------------------
AI1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC U0121 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test BF. Pinpoint Tests BF: DTC U0121

No
GO to AI2.

-------------------------------------------------
AI2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE ABS MODULE SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded ABS module DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems.

No
If the traction control message center indicator is never on, GO to AI3.

If the traction control message center indicator is always on, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
AI3 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR

- Open the LH front door.
- Ignition ON.
- NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center indicators rotate through each of the warnings. Allow the displays to rotate through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning indicator is active.
- Observe the message center or integrated display area of the IC.
- Is the door ajar message center warning indicator active?

Yes
The system is operating normally at this time. If the traction control system encountered system concerns, the ABS module sets DTCs and sends a command to the IC to illuminate the traction control message center indicator.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
