Information And Message Center

Information And Message Center

The message center display is a fixed format, 2-line display integrated into the center of the Instrument Cluster (IC) and is controlled by the message center switches. There are 2 basic IC message center configurations. The first is the full function message center and can be identified by the 3 button message center switch located in the IC finish panel. The second is the base IC message center and can be identified by the single reset button located in the IC. Both IC configurations display messages based upon vehicle option content.

The base IC message center functions and menus listed below can be selected through the select/reset button by pressing and releasing the select/reset button to scroll through the menu items. The INFO items (trip A, trip B and average fuel economy) can be reset by holding the select/reset button for approximately 2 seconds. The SETUP items, (language, system configurable items such as autolamps or autolock) can be reset by holding the select/reset button for approximately 2 seconds when the selected menu item is displayed. Refer to the Owner's Literature for complete operating instructions for both the full function message center and the base IC message center.

The message center provides the following features:

- Information displays
- Setup displays
- System check messages
- System warning messages

Message Center Configuration

On configurable items such as autolock, auto-unlock or parking aid, the message center indicates the appropriate selection (ON/OFF) by bracketing the selection. For example, if the driver selects the autolock feature on, the message would display as follows: AUTOLOCK [ON] OFF. If the driver selects the autolock off, the message would display as follows: AUTOLOCK ON [OFF].

Oil Change Minder (6.4L Diesel)

The message center provides an oil change minder to inform the driver that an oil change is required. The oil change minder is based on the percentage of engine oil dilution. The PCM internally calculates the dilution percentage and provides a status message to the IC for display in the message center, indicating the remaining oil life. The oil change minder can be reset by the driver. Refer to Message Center Configuration Reset Procedure.

Oil Change Minder (Gasoline Engines)

The message center provides an oil change minder to inform the driver that an oil change is required. The IC internally calculates the remaining oil life based on time (6 months) and the distance traveled 8,000 km/h (5,000 miles). The oil change minder can be reset by the driver. Refer to Message Center Configuration Reset Procedure.

Message Center Indicators

The message center displays message center indicators in the RH side of the message center display area. Message center indicators replace indicators that have typically been displayed in the IC and use the same iconic representation (for example; the low oil pressure message center warning indicator (diesel only) is represented by the oil can symbol that has been traditionally used as the low oil pressure warning indicator in other IC configurations). Message center indicators are generally displayed along with warning messages in the message center display area of the IC.

Compass Display (If equipped)

The message center provides a compass display in the information display using directional information sent from the compass module which is integrated into the interior auto-dimming mirror.

Information Displays

The information displays are non-timed modes. The selected mode remains on until the driver presses the select/reset button (base Instrument Cluster (IC)) or a message center button (message center IC) to change the mode or it is overridden by another mode.

The information display modes (INFO button on message center clusters) are:

- Odometer
- Trip odometer A and B
- Distance To Empty (DTE)
- Average fuel economy
- Setup menu (base IC only)
- Trailer brake gain and output (displays only when the gain is changed)
- Drive time (elapsed travel timer)
- Blank display

Setup Displays

The setup displays are timed modes and terminate after a finite interval. As part of the setup menu, the message center has the capability to configure items such as units (English or metric), autolamp delay or to enable/disable options such as autolock.

The base instrument IC setup display modes are:

- Units (English/metric)
- Language
- System check

The message center IC setup display modes (SETUP button on message center IC) are:

- Oil life status
- System check
- Units English/metric
- Autolamp (delay in seconds)
- Autolock (on/off) (except manual transmission)
- Auto unlock
- Compass zone
- Compass calibration

System Check Displays

The system check provides a check of all the monitored systems on the vehicle. The system check scrolls through each of the monitored systems and provides a visual indication to report out the status of each system. The message center displays OK for approximately 2 seconds if the system check does not detect a fault in the system and displays a warning message for approximately 2 seconds if the system check detects a fault in the system. Press the select/reset button (base IC) or RESET button (message center IC) to scroll through the system check messages.

The system check display modes are:

- Engine hours
- Charging system status
- Door ajar status
- Brake system status
- Trailer disconnected
- Fuel level/DTE

System Warning Messages

The system warning messages alert the operator to possible problems or malfunctions in the vehicle operating systems. The message center displays the last selected feature if there are no additional warning messages. Once a warning message has been displayed, the message must be acknowledged to allow full functionality of the message center. Press the select/reset button (base IC) or RESET button (message center IC) to acknowledge and clear the warning message.

The warning messages are divided into 3 basic categories:

- Cannot be cleared until the condition is corrected.
- Reappears 10 minutes after pressing the select/reset button.
- Reappears if the condition clears then reoccurs within the same ignition ON-OFF cycle.

The warning messages that cannot be reset are:

- DRIVER FRONT DOOR AJAR
- PASSENGER DOOR AJAR
- REAR LEFT DOOR AJAR
- REAR RIGHT DOOR AJAR

The warning messages that reoccur after 10 minutes are:

- XXX MILES/KM TO E FUEL LEVEL LOW

When a fault condition exists, the warning messages that are displayed whenever the ignition switch is turned from the OFF position to the ON position are:

- CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM
- CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM
- BRAKE FLUID LEVEL LOW
- PARK BRAKE ENGAGED
- TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT
- TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR FAULT
- LOW TIRE PRESSURE
- WIRING FAULT ON TRAILER
- TRAILER BRAKE MODULE FAULT
- TRAILER DISCONNECTED
- TBC GAIN = XX.X NO TRAILER
