Pinpoint Test W: The Upshift Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The shift indicator is used to inform the driver of shift points that provide the highest fuel economy. The shift indicator is controlled by the Instrument Cluster (IC) based upon a shift message sent from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus lines.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PCM
- IC
PINPOINT TEST W: THE UPSHIFT INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

W1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE KOEO PCM SELF-TEST
- Retrieve the recorded DTCs from the PCM Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any DTCs retrieved?
Yes
REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information.
No
GO to W2.

W2 CARRY OUT THE IC INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the IC upshift indicator (GEARSUP) active command while monitoring the upshift indicator.
- Does the upshift indicator turn on when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes
INSTALL a PCM. REFER to Computers and Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
