ISSUE
Some 2007-2010 Ranger vehicles built on or before 2/1/2010 and equipped with a 2.3L engine and automatic transmission may exhibit higher than expected engine idle speeds of 1500-2400 RPM at cold start up. Manual transmission equipped vehicles may exhibit a similar high idle condition when clutch pedal is depressed.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 64.06 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2009.11 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
2. Clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) after programming.
3. For DTC's generated after reprogramming, follow normal diagnostic service procedures.
